8 Fantastic Health Benefits of Spring Cleanup

Health benefits of spring cleanup

Now that the spring season is here, it’s time to do some decluttering and give your house a makeover! It not only gives you a neat, tidy space to live but also allows you to reenergize both physically and mentally after a long winter break. Considering the health benefits of spring cleanup, you should see it as a self-care activity rather than a chore.

Here’s how kicking off the season of renewal with cleaning can help you improve your overall health and well-being.

1. Helps Destress

The COVID-19 pandemic may have taken a toll on your mental health, leaving you stressed, depressed, or overwhelmed. Whether you’re still stuck at home, working remotely, or trying to adjust to the new normal outdoors, your mental health may benefit from keeping your space clean and organized.

You may find that you feel, think, and sleep better in a less cluttered space. Apart from this, the physical act of cleaning allows you to turn your brain off for some time and relax. If you’ve been feeling low or demotivated recently, spring cleaning may exactly be what you need to destress and bounce back from a productivity slump.

Sort through your paperwork, clothing, and toiletries and get rid of the items you don’t use or need. Moreover, reserve your bedside table for essentials to help yourself sleep better. Approaching spring cleaning with intentionality and awareness is a great way to practice mindfulness and keep stress at bay.

2. Allows You to Breathe Cleaner, Fresher Air

One of the biggest health benefits of spring cleanup is that it allows you to breathe better. You may be under the impression that pollen triggers your springtime asthma attacks and allergies. However, dust, mold, mildew, and pet hair can be equally responsible. If your house is dirty and cluttered, it must have gathered a lot of these pollutants during winter.

Spring cleaning helps cut the number of allergens in the air and removes both allergic and non-allergic asthma triggers, minimizing the risk of dangerous flare-ups. A clean house allows you and your family members to ease their allergy symptoms. So, get ready to use smart vacuum cleaner tricks and dusting strategies to keep your airways open throughout the season!

3. Helps Prevent Illness

Commonly touched surfaces and shared items play an important role in spreading viruses and bacteria. Considering the current pandemic situation, it is extremely crucial to clean and sanitize these surfaces to minimize the risk of illness. Apart from this, preventing foodborne illnesses must be your priority.

This spring season, take a pledge to deep-clean all major contact points at home. Pay special attention to kitchen sinks, counters, and cutting boards to promote food safety and minimize foodborne symptoms. Furthermore, use alcohol-based cleaners to clean the items you use the most, including your cellphone, bedding, towels, and keyboards.

4. Makes You Physically Active

Spring cleaning encourages you to move and can give you a pretty decent workout. The longer you let a mess pile up, the harder it gets to clean. While dirty dishes sit forgotten in the sink, you’ll be imagining the fresh smell of a clean kitchen. Take action, get your body moving and let’s do some cleaning. In addition to burning calories while cleaning, you can use your motivation to keep the house clean to move a step closer to achieving your physical fitness goals.

5. Improves Mood

Even if you think spring cleaning is boring and tedious, you can’t deny the fact that the results can leave you feeling highly satisfied and accomplished. That’s because the look and smell of a freshly cleaned house boost endorphin production in the brain, inducing feelings of happiness and improving energy levels. It also makes you feel more in control of your environment and improves your focus.

If you find that decluttering and cleaning instantly lifts your mood and spirits, it’s time to grab your cleaning tools and kick off all negative emotions, welcoming all the positive vibes you need in your life.

6. Lowers the Risk of Injury

The risk of falls and injury is significantly higher in cluttered, disorganized spaces, especially for children and the elderly. The chances of injuries related to smoke inhalation or a home fire are also higher, as there may be flammable materials scattered around the place. Moreover, it may take longer for you to respond to the affected area.

If you want to keep your loved ones safe this season, it’s time to indulge in some serious spring cleaning! It’s the perfect time to analyze your space and make the necessary adjustments. This will help you prevent injuries caused by tripping, bumping, slipping, and falling. Remove all obstacles from the staircases and pathways. Also, look out for loose floorboards, cords, and other tripping hazards.

7. Influences a Healthy Lifestyle

One of the most exciting health benefits of spring cleanup is that it motivates you to adopt a healthy lifestyle. It’s true that when you develop a good habit, other good habits follow!

Cleaning your home and organizing personal stuff will encourage you to ‘clean’ up other aspects of your life as well, including your diet, sleeping routine, and exercise regime. A 2013 study revealed that people living in a clean, organized environment were more likely to go for healthier food options as compared to those placed in a cluttered space.

This season, make it a point to think beyond your home and try to improve your overall lifestyle. You can amp up your workout routine by moving your yoga sessions outdoors and ditching the treadmill for the trails. Since the spring season is all about celebrating renewals, why not go the extra mile and experiment with different healthy food items out there!

8. Promotes Heart Health

One of the best ways to reduce your risk of heart disease is by following a proper exercise routine. Although household chores are low-intensity activities, they can promote heart health and push you closer to your physical activity goals. This yet another convincing reason to take spring cleaning seriously this year!

An easy way to support your heart health is by indulging in light exercise for no more than 30 minutes a day. So, while you’re mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming, you’ll be decreasing your risk of developing heart disease.

You were right that the risk of fall and injuries are higher in cluttered areas, especially for children. Just the other day, my kids tripped over several of the items scattered around the living room. And I can’t start cleaning because I’m too busy. I think I’ll hire janitorial services if my schedule doesn’t improve soon. https://winnipegwhitegloves.com/commercial-janitorial-cleaning-services/

What got me was how you said spring cleaning helps cut the number of allergens in the air that triggers asthma. Both of my younger brothers have asthma, and I did notice their flare-ups are common in the spring. We’ll get professional cleaners to deep clean the house for extra safety. https://thecleanfresh.com/commercial-cleaning-service-columbia-sc/
