When I was growing up in Japan, my grandmother was my entire world. My parents worked long hours, so she was the one who raised me — warm, kind, and always present. Being around her felt like the safest place in the world.

One afternoon, I had some friends over to play. As we passed by my grandmother, one of them leaned in and whispered:

"Why does your grandma smell weird?"

I didn’t know how to respond. She was always so clean and graceful. But I saw the subtle change in her smile — she had heard it. That quiet moment stayed with me for years.

Later, I learned the answer: the scent was caused by Nonenal, a compound that forms naturally on aging skin and can’t be removed with regular soap. At the time, no one knew this — including me. But that one comment planted a seed that would grow into a mission.

From Memory to Mission: The Birth of Mirai Clinical

That moment led me to launch Mirai Clinical — a personal care brand rooted in Japanese tradition and powered by modern science. Our mission is simple: help people age with confidence, not shame.

In 2014, I started Mirai Clinical in the U.S. while still living in Japan. It was far from easy. I had no marketing experience, no local team, and no idea how to grow a brand in a foreign country.

Eventually, I left my full-time job in Tokyo and moved to California. Then, tragedy struck — the person helping me fulfill orders passed away unexpectedly. I suddenly had no team, no support system, and no clear path forward.

There were cultural missteps, scams, and more than one night where I cried myself to sleep. Honestly, I almost gave up.
