First off, unless you are totally covered with mud or dirt, you do NOT need to soap up every inch of your body. There are only 5 areas you should wash with soap as they tend to have oxidized natural oils that produce body odor:
In other words, you don’t have to wash other areas like legs, arms or stomach, with soap. It’s perfectly fine to just rinse them with water. Less is More!
Skin-friendly reason for avoiding long showers/baths:
Staphylococcus epidermis, one of the good bacteria that lives on your skin surface. This guy prevents growth of bad bacteria and protects your skin’s immune function. But by taking long showers or baths, 70% of the bacteria is rinsed off.
Moreover, excessive washing with soap rinses off as much as 95% of the good bacteria. In this environment, bad bacteria, including staphylococcus aureus or fungus, can increase to cause unpleasant body odor. Plus excessive washing can strip skin of its natural oils, leaving the skin more vulnerable to the signs of aging.
